Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner has been Head of the German Institute for Development Policy and Co-Director of the Center for Global Cooperation Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2003. As a specialist in global governance, network theories, and international relations and cooperation, he does research, consults, and travels around the world to confront the long-established pessimism that sees us as selfish beings fighting only for our personal benefit with a new image: Humankind as always having cooperated and whose basic need for fairness, trust and belonging should now be raised to a global level.
The director Jörg Lukas Matthaei asked himself whether the new wave of zombies in film and television in the past few years serves as a deterrent – or as a script for happily reaching the future.
