In research and interviews in Lahore, Berlin, Vienna and London, we traced the astonishing life story of the actor, theater and radio producer, who came from colonial India to the vibrant Berlin of the interwar period to later establish a European film and theater aesthetic in young Pakistan. This gave rise to a dynasty of actors and media creators who continue to shape the country’s culture to this day.
